The Greater Orlando Society for Human Resource Management (GOSHRM) was one of only five SHRM Chapters to receive the 2015 SHRM Foundation Innovation Award.  Launched in 2013, the Innovation Award recognizes SHRM Chapters and State Councils that engage creative and innovative ideas to support the SHRM Foundation and help shape the future of HR.

The Greater Orlando Society for Human Resource Management (GOSHRM) was once again named as a  SHRM Foundation Chapter Champion for our contributions to that organization.  In 2014, GOSHRM was one of the Top 25 Chapters in the nation for fundraising.  GOSHRM was able to collect $4,099 through our annual holiday auction, monthly meeting raffles and meeting registration donations.

HR Florida was No. 1 among state councils for donations.  Thanks to our members, the SHRM Foundation was able to award more than 100 scholarships to HR students and professionals, fund more than $4 million in HR research since 2007, publish complimentary educational resources, and advance thought leadership.  For more information on the SHRM Foundation, please visit http://shrm.org/about/foundation/pages/foundationhome.aspx.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded the Greater Orlando Society for Human Resource Management (GOSHRM) its prestigious EXCEL Award Platinum Award for the chapter’s accomplishments in 2014.

The award is part of the SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence, which aligns individual chapters and councils with SHRM’s goals. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resources profession.

“At SHRM, advancing the human resources profession is our mission. The work of our chapters and councils are central to accomplishing that,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, president and CEO of SHRM. “Receiving this award is testament to GOSHRM’s commitment to advancing the HR profession through local networking and professional development activities.”

The EXCEL award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum, and each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that have to be met. GOSHRM will receive recognition in SHRM publications and conferences, a certificate of recognition, and special signage to display at its meetings and events.

The Greater Orlando Society for Human Resource Management (GOSHRM) was recognized today by the HR Florida State Council for its innovative Bridges to Work program which connects employment experts with military veterans seeking employment.

GOSHRM was one of only three affiliates of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) across the state to receive the 2014 HR Florida Chapter Excellence Award at the HR Florida Conference & Expo held at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek.

The Chapter Excellence Award honors Florida SHRM chapters who have made a difference in their communities and the HR profession in one or more core leadership areas: certification, college relations, diversity, global affairs, legislative affairs, membership and workforce readiness.  Winners receive an honorarium of $1,000.00.

Developed in partnership with the local office of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Vocational Rehabilitation unit, GOSHRM launched the Bridges to Work program in 2014 with the goal of leveraging member-volunteers’ HR experience to find sustainable, competitive employment for veterans returning to the civilian workforce.  In addition to mentoring veterans one-on-one, Bridges to Work volunteers also help educate employers on the adaptability of our servicemen and women.

“As the lead organization for human resource trends and best practices across the state, it gives me great joy to recognize our local chapters,” said Joyce Chastain, president, HR Florida State Council.  “GOSHRM's ability to engage and mentor the veteran population is to be commended. The Bridges to Work program is a terrific initiative that helps put those who served our country back to work."
