Workforce Readiness
Share |

Workforce Readiness includes the preparation of a qualified workforce through the public schools, vocational and technical colleges, adult education opportunities, remedial employee training, mentoring, job shadowing and continuing professional development.  Such efforts mandate collaboration between business/industry, local, state and national government, educators and the local community.

Our mission is to provide a resource for Central Florida Veterans, through meaningful individualized relationships with GOSHRM HR professionals, so that the Veteran is better prepared to gain sustainable and competitive employment through our program.

  • Position veterans to gain employment through employability skills such as interviewing, networking and branding
  • Provide an outlet for GOSHRM members to serve the community through their profession
  • Engage employers toward employing veterans

This is the second installment of our program in which GOSHRM members are paired with a veteran for a six-month period. Mentors receive training and a mentoring toolkit to help build a professional relationship. Space is limited to 15 mentors for the six-month period beginning April 2015.

jobs partnership of florida

The Jobs Partnership of Florida (JP) and GOSHRM have developed an innovative Workforce Readiness initiative that is designed to enhance the employability of the entry-level workforce and direct them to career path opportunities that pay a family-sustaining wage.  Through this unique partnership, GOSHRM members can invest their time and talent in developing a sustainable entry-level workforce in Central Florida by serving as classroom instructors, interview coaches or mentors to the chronically underemployed participants in the Work & Life program offered by JP.

Additionally, member companies can recruit graduates of the program by participating in JP's private job fairs and by utilizing JP's online job bank,  To learn more about The Jobs Partnership of Florida, please visit their website today!

Every month, the Central Florida Jobs Initiative needs volunteers with Human Resources experience for Career Coaching, Resume Coaching, Mock Interviews and Job Readiness Training.

Greater Orlando SHRM is proud to serve as a 2014 Community Partner in the When Work Works program, a national initiative led by the partnership of Families and Work Institute (FWI) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). When Work Works is one of the foremost providers of resources, research and best practices on workplace effectiveness and flexibility in the nation.
We are part of a group of 20 community partners in cities and states across the country that engage community leaders in workplace flexibility efforts and educate employers about workplace flexibility practices such as job sharing, flexible work schedules, career flexibility, part-time work and other workflex programs and policies.
The initiative administers the annual Sloan Awards for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility, a prestigious awards program that recognizes exemplary employers for using flexibility as an effective workplace strategy to increase business and employee success.
As a Community Partner in Central Florida, we want to recognize local employers, non-profits and otherorganizations for their innovative workplace practices. Share the story of your organization’s success and take advantage of this opportunity to showcase your organization’s flexible work environment and learn how your worksite stacks up against other employers.
Please visit for more information and to apply. Applications will be open again in August 2015.
Recipients of the Sloan Awards will be recognized at a future event and be included in the next edition of "The Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work." For more information, contact Amy Lein, Director of Workforce Readiness, at
